a beautiful small kitchen remodel with a leathered granite countertop and new window

Small Kitchen Remodel Jenkintown PA: A Chic Transformation

How We Transformed This Small Kitchen

Calfayan Construction has a long-standing relationship with the client and her husband. We previously completed several projects for them, including two bathroom remodels and a front porch renovation. This strong working history helped us understand their vision.

The original kitchen was tiny and sat at the rear of the house. The client could not relocate the kitchen, so she wanted it to feel light and airy. She also wanted a more functional workspace with better storage.

We made minor adjustments to the floor plan, relocating the back door to a side wall, which added precious square feet. The client now has a continuous countertop spanning the entire rear wall. This added wall space also allowed room for a sleek under-counter wine fridge.

Since the client loves cooking and baking, we added open shelves on the side wall to display her favorite cookbooks.

The client is an experienced architect, so she not only redesigned the kitchen but also chose the color palette. This beautiful galley kitchen remodel took approximately two months to complete.

Unique Features of This Small Kitchen Remodel

One spectacular feature is the leathered quartzite countertop. Its gorgeous graining is visible, even in bright light.

Previously, the kitchen felt dark and cramped, mainly because the original windows were so low. We raised the opening and installed a large window with a quartzite sill that matched the countertop. The kitchen now feels bright and open, and the client has a perfect view of the yard.

The blue, beige, and grey palette provides a soothing backdrop and contributes to the kitchen’s open feel.

We also installed new cork floors, which make working more comfortable. They are especially easy on the feet and back.

Finally, we closed the original rear staircase entry and converted it into a walk-in pantry with ample storage. This quaint kitchen may have a small footprint, but it’s not only workable, it’s stunning.

What Makes a Small Kitchen Feel Bigger?

A small kitchen can feel significantly larger with strategic design decisions and a smarter layout. This might involve reconfiguring appliance placement or relocating a doorway.

A raised window makes room for continuous countertops. It also floods the kitchen with natural light. Careful material choices, like lighter palettes and reflective surfaces, also help.
