Design and Inspiration
Chris Hartzell of Desmond Wholesale Distribution Inc. initially referred the clients to Calfayan Construction Associates. Chris had designed the kitchen, and architect Joseph Catelli provided the permit drawings. The Calfayan team offered expert suggestions throughout the design process, like helical piers to support the converted porch floor.
Consultation, Construction, & Completion

The Calfayan team provided our clients with a Pre-Construction Agreement during the consultation. This document helped us organize and manage the project.
The clients wanted to shop for materials, so we sent them a “product selections list”. We also secured product costs and coordinated with the architect and subcontractors. This process led to a comprehensive contract.
The Calfayan team led by Reis Calfayan assessed the clients’ home, paying particular attention to electrical and HVAC systems. Finally, the team evaluated potential staging areas since we needed to bring in special equipment. We considered factors like dumpster placement, material drops, and existing pathways.
During the construction, the Calfayan team regularly checked for plumb, parallel, square, and level. The biggest challenge was the old, uneven porch floor. Our construction team completely rebuilt the floor system to seamlessly integrate with the new space.
The structural work was also tricky. Our team enlarged the back door opening that was part of a load-bearing wall. Then, we demolished three sides of the multi-season room, ensuring the roof remained stable. Finally, we widened the opening between the kitchen and dining room for a more open, inviting space.
As we neared completion, the clients requested additional work on their kitchen remodeling project. We installed a paver patio and refinished the living room and dining room floors. We also painted the living room and stairwell walls.
